Omi as landlady and confidante

Created by Carleton 3 years ago
While I was working in Bracknell Omi let me stay a few nights each week to reduce the amount of commuting I was doing. When I got back in from work I would go and say hello to Omi each evening, and we had some great conversations. I remember most of all how much genuine interest she always showed in what was going on in my life, which was very touching. Sometimes she was having a bad day from the pain in her hip or knee, but she put this aside to focus on me, and was always very sympathetic to the chronic pain I was going through at the time. We also had discussions on more general things like politics, as Omi continued to show a lot of interest in the world despite being more housebound at that point. She also showed great determination to remain as active and self-sufficient as possible, often coming on shopping trips with me to the Waitrose down the road. She had some amazing life experiences and stories to tell and I would have loved to hear more, but she tended to be more interested in hearing about my life, which I think is testament to her nature of selflessness and caring for others.
