Vivian's story - Priest Hill

1970

Created by Melanie 3 years ago

Vivian and Malcolm lived at the bottom of Priest Hill in the 1970's.  Vivian had the hairdresser's in the shop at the front and Malcolm was a builder/ carpenter, operating from the back yard.  They now live in France but kept in touch with Mum.  These are Vivian's words:

I have such lovely memories of your mum and all you kids. Your dear mum, always ready to help.  She was often my chief shampoo girl, receptionist, or whatever was needed. We spent many hours chatting after the little ones were in bed. Her amazing stories of her childhood and difficult times before arriving in UK. Those things that gave her strength and determination. I so admired her, bringing up five children nearly single handed. I was very privileged  to see you all grow up alongside my brood Tina, William and Charlotte . What a good job your mum did.

We lost touch for a few brief years, but enjoyed catching up some years later with long lunches in the cafe in Prospect Street. In one of these chats Ute agreed to come back to France with me for a stay. We had a  hilarious journey with Ute on crutches, she fell out of her attic looking for her skis! The taxi didn't turn up, running in the airport, on crutches, to catch plane, wow, but we did it. We spent a lovely week in our new home in France.  We met on a few occasions after that, but not so often.

I thank you, Ute, for your friendship, companionship, and hilarious lunches in later years, you were a good part of my life. My love goes with you my friend.
