5 things that will always remind me of my Omi- by Chiara Nunzet (grandaughter)

Ducks: Anyone who has been to Omi's home will know about her love for ducks! When I was younger I used to play 'spot the duck' around her house as they were literally on everything- mugs, plates, bags, cushions, all sorts. I would always try to make her presents duck-themed... apart from the time I bought her Sudoku toilet paper for Christmas (can't be topped.)

Roast turkey: Some of you may be aware of the infamous Christmas day where Omi's hip popped out right before lunch was to be served. A story best told by my dad, who can't help but laugh when remembering Omi and Mum having to rush off to the hospital, and the rest of us walking into the kitchen to see the huge turkey (seriously.. it was a beast!) and all the trimmings there ready... I believe most of it was polished off before they returned.. oops.

Ferrero Rocher: It became a bit of an in-joke as I'm pretty sure Omi gifted us a box of Ferrero Rocher for Christmas/birthdays for over 6 years in a row at one point. Zero complaints though, they are the best chocolates in my opinion and I will now always think of her when I have one.

Board games, especially Rummikub: Hours were spent playing Rummikub every time I visited Omi. Every friend I ever took with me to see Omi (especially during my time at Uni of Reading as it was so close) was immediately sat down to play without a say in the matter. She taught me all the good tips and tricks. It's a great game- highly recommend.

Easter: It makes me laugh every time I remember the one Easter where Mum asked me to pretend I still believed in the Easter bunny (I'm pretty sure I was like 15) because Omi and her sister Sabine were really excited to do an Easter egg hunt for me, hiding them all over Omi's lovely garden and round the house. Omi would always tell me about the chocolate eggs she (or the squirrels) would find a few months later that had obviously been hidden too well. I still love Easter to this day because of all the traditions that have been passed down, and yes I did make my boyfriend Charlie do a lockdown Easter egg hunt around the flat for me back in April.

That is just a fraction of my memories of Omi who was a caring, loving and passionate lady. I hope wherever she is now that she is happy, relaxing and munching on some well-deserved Ferrero Rocher xxxxx
